On July 23, the United States Geological Survey released its resource estimate for the entire area north of the Arctic Circle: 90 billion barrels of oil and 1,670 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. "With this assessment, we're providing the same information to everyone in the world so that the global community can make those difficult decisions [on future use of oil and gas and protecting endangered species....]," said USGS Director Mark Myers.
